The Best of All Worlds - Spotify's New Design Combines TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube

Spotify has recently unveiled its biggest evolution yet with a new design that is part TikTok, part Instagram, and part YouTube. This new experience keeps listening sessions fresh with personalized recommendations that perfectly match the vibe of an original song or playlist.

The new design builds on the updates shipped in August 2022, which had separated music and podcasts into their own feeds. The Home page now allows users to expand into their recommendations, creating a more immersive experience for users. It also includes a Smart Shuffle feature which adds variety to your listening sessions by introducing you to songs you may not have heard before.

The new Desktop app has rolled out, replacing one of Spotify's oldest and most loved clients. As a Design Team, it's often difficult (sometimes impossible) to balance user needs with business objectives while designing something that is both intuitive and visually appealing. With this update, Spotify has achieved just that - they've created an interface that looks like TikTok but still feels like Spotify.

In addition to the Home page redesign, Spotify has also added video content to its platform in order to compete with other streaming services such as YouTube and Instagram TV. This move will give users access to even more content than ever before as well as provide artists with another avenue for promotion and discovery.
